Dr. W.W. Walley, 89, of Waynesboro, died Thursday, May 11, 2006.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today, at First Baptist Church in Waynesboro, with burial in Waynesboro Cemetery.
He was born Aug. 2, 1916, and graduated from Sandhill High School in 1937. He attended Jones County Junior College, the University of Mississippi and the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned a medical degree. He served his residency at Jefferson Hillman Hospital in Birmingham, Ala. He began practicing in Waynesboro in 1951 and delivered more than 7,000 babies before retiring in 1994. His clinic is still in operation in operation today. He was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church in Waynesboro, past president of the Mississippi Baptist Convention, a member of the foreign mission board of the Southern Baptist Convention and a member of the South and Southeast Asia Board, making numerous global mission trips. He served in the United States Army and was a veteran of World War II. He served on the Waynesboro Board of Aldermen and was a member and past president of the Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce and other organizations.
He is survived by his wife, Eletha Green Walley of Waynesboro; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Joseph Claude and Belinda Walley of Waynesboro and W.W. Walley Jr. of Hattiesburg; two daughters and sons-in-law, Eletha Jane and Danny Jenkins and Charlotte Ann and Gary Doherty, all of Waynesboro; a brother, Ray Walley of Sandhill; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Freeman Funeral Home in Waynesboro is in charge of arrangements.
