Wilson Ayers

Services for Wilson Weldon ``W.W.'' Ayers, 83, of Lubbock will be at 2 p.m. today at Sanders Memorial Chapel.

Masonic graveside services will be in the City of Lubbock Cemetery under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home of Lubbock.

He died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002.

He was born Oct. 20, 1918, in Sidney and served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant during World War II. He married Vera Jane Thrailkill on Nov. 7, 1942, in Clovis, N.M. She died in 1985. He married Kathleen Earhart in 1987.

He was a conductor for Santa Fe Railroad for 30 years, retiring in 1980. He was a member and past master of the Slaton Masonic Lodge, a 32nd degree member of the Lubbock Scottish Rite and past worthy patron of the Eastern Star in Slaton.

A son, James W., died in 1963.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Katherine Hester of Hempstead and Melba J. McAbee of Deercreek, Okla.; two sons, Gary L. of Ponca City, Okla., and Larry Ayers of Lubbock; two sisters, Sadie Lea McKinney of Round Rock and Perdue Booth of California; a brother, Cecil of Cypress; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
