W. S. Emmons, 79, Former Principal, Mayor, Sikes Dies
W. S. Emmons, 79, former principal of the Sikes High School and former Mayor
of the Village of Sikes, died Wednesday in a Winnfield hospital after a brief
illness.
Born and reared in the Mineral Springs community, Mr. Emmons was also a
prominent farmer. He served his ward and the parish in many capacities on
committees and in organizations throughout the years. A member of the Sikes
Baptist Church, he also served as Lay Preacher and teacher of the Men's
Bible Class.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the Sikes Baptist Church
with Rev. Willie James and Rev. C. S. Cadwallader officiating. Burial will
follow in the Sikes Cemetery under direction of Edmonds Funeral Home of
Jonesboro. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Clara Emmons of Sikes; five sons, Bob Emmons
of Sikes; W. S. Emmons, Jr., of Beaumont, Texas; M. W. Emmons of Baton Rouge;
Glenroy Emmons of Fort Collins, Colo.; and Fontaine Emmons of Monroe; one
daughters, Mrs. Robert Hartsell of Manhatten, Kansas; and 19 grandchildren.
