Winnie Loper Bayless Walker

Winnie Loper Bayless Walker, a resident of Paulding, Miss., formerly of the Bethlehem community, near Headland, died Tuesday morning, June 30, 2009, in the South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel, Miss. She was 70.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 2, 2009, in the Bethlehem Baptist Church, near Headland, with the Revs. Norman C. Simmons and Andy Bryan officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary, Headland, Alabama, is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. Thursday in the church sanctuary.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Bethlehem Baptist Church Building Fund, 2506 State Highway 134 E., Headland, AL 36345.

Mrs. Walker was born in Laurel, Miss., daughter of the late William Winfred Loper and Maggie Ruth Smith Loper. She moved with her family to Jasper County, Miss., as a child. Mrs. Walker formerly lived in Bay Springs, Miss., Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and the Bethelehem community, near Headland, before moving to Paulding, Miss., in October 2008. She was a member of the Bay Springs Baptist Church in Bay Springs. Mrs. Walker was retired, due to medical disability, as a telephone contractor supervisor in the Fort Walton Beach, Fla., area. In earlier years, she was employed by the State of Mississippi Welfare Department as the secretary for the district director in Hattiesburg, Miss.

Surviving relatives include her husband, Kenneth Allen Walker, Paulding, Miss.; two daughters, Denise Bayless Boyd and husband, Tracy Boyd, Paulding, Miss., Teresa Walker Price and husband, David Price, Eufaula; two sons, Bobby Bayless and wife, Debbie Bayless, Bay Springs, Miss., Kenneth Wayne Walker and wife, Patti Walker, Shalimar, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Sherri Walker Bell, DeFuniak Springs, Fla.; a sister, Brenda Windham and husband, Bill Windham, Poplarville, Miss.; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.
