Wiston McCarty

OLLA -- Services for Wiston ``Mr. Wiston'' Aubrey McCarty will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Beech Creek Baptist Church near Olla with the Rev. Michael Green officiating. Burial will be in Beech Creek Cemetery under direction of Southern, Winnfield.

McCarty, 96, of Tullos died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, in Winn Parish Medical Center.

He was the last surviving member of the Famed Louisiana Range Riders of 1936. He was at one time one of the largest cattle owners in north Louisiana. He was featured on KNOE-TV and in several newspapers as a model of the Old West. He was a member of the Masonic Fraternity.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Minnie McCarty; second wife, Agnes McCarty; one son, Arlos McCarty; and two grandsons, Jessie Lee McCarty and James Wiston Taylor.

Survivors include one daughter, Beryl Taylor of Benton; one son, Howard McCarty of Olla; 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Doug Booth, Danny Booth, David Jones, Dee Jones, Levi Jones, Ronald Griffin and J.D Rudd.

Friends may call from 1-9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until time of services Monday in the church.

Wiston McCarty

Funeral services for Wiston McCarty were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, on his 97th birthday, November 26, 2001 at the Beech Creek Baptist Church near Olla, LA. Officiating was Rev. Michael preen. Burial followed in the Beech Creek Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home, Winnfield, LA.

Mr. McCarty, age 96 the Beech Creek Community, passed away Saturday, November 24, 2001 at the Winn Parish Medical Center at 7:15 a.m.

``Mr. Wiston'' as most people referred to him, was the last surviving member of the Famed LA Range Riders in 1936. He was born to the union of Howard and Lucy McCarty on November 26, 1904. He was at one time one of the largest cattle owners in North LA and was featured on KNOE-TV and in several newspaper articles as a model of the Old West. He was a member of the Masonic Fraternity.

He was preceded in death by his two wives, Minnie McCarty, the mother of his children, and Agnes McCarty. Also, two grandsons, Jessie Lee McCarty and James Wiston Taylor and one son, Arlos McCarty.

Survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Beryl Taylor and husband Louis of Benton, LA; one son, Howard McCarty and wife Pauline of Olla, LA; grandsons: Howard McCarty, Randy McCarty, Gary Taylor, Wiston B. "Pete" McCarty, Terry McCarty and Herman and Sherman McCarty; granddaughters: Katie Helton, Diann Mitchell. Brenda Norton, Mary Boyette, Gayla Pickett, Deanie Lofton, Sandra Cling and best friend, J. D. Rudd; 27 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were: Doug Booth, Danny Booth, David Jones, Dee Jones, Levi Jones, and Ronald Griffin.

Honorary Pallbearer was: J. D. Rudd.
