Woodrow “Woody” Rivers
SHREVEPORT, LA - Services for Woodrow “Woody” Rivers, 77, will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, September 12, 1996 at the Wellman Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Randy McGee of Brookwood Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Centuries Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, September 11, 1996 at the funeral home.
Mr. Rivers died Tuesday, September 10, 1996 at Willis Knighton Medical Center. He was born in Desoto Parish and had resided most of his life in Shreveport. Woody was a veteran of World War II and received a Purple Heart in action in the Philippines. He was a trucker (owner-operator) and his record included over 600,000 miles without an accident. He was an avid race fan and sponsored several cars at the local tracks. Mr. Rivers was a Mason, a Civitan and was truly a helper of mankind and will be so terribly missed by all that knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph H. and Josephine Beebee Rivers and a sister, Doris Nelson.
He is survived by his wife, Rheba Rivers; two sons, Darryl Franklin, and Scottie Franklin and wife, Patsy; one daughter, Karen Davis and husband Bill; four grandchildren, Bradley Todd, Annie Todd, John Franklin and Sarah Franklin all of Shreveport; four sisters, Lillie Antal of Minneapolis, Minn., Myrtle Coats and husband, Pete of Baton Rouge, La., Helen Dungan and husband, Chuck, and Gladys Kline all of Bossier City, La.; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Bradley Todd, John Franklin, Chester Todd, Darryl McLemore, Henry Robison and Pete Robison.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Kaplan, O. C. Jordan, Ardis Phillips and George Phillips.
