Services for Zelma Nelson Hightower, age 85 of Grayson will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, August 9, 2007 from the Cross Roads Baptist Church west of Grayson, with Rev. Chuck Stapleton officiating. Interment will follow in the Cross Roads Cemetery.

Mrs. Hightower was born in Grayson on January 5, 1922 to the union of John Henry and Alice Whittington Nelson, and died Monday, August 6, 2007 at the Haven Nursing Center in Columbia.

She was a retired nurse's aide, having worked at the Columbia Heights Hospital and the Haven Nursing Center. She was a member of the Cross Roads Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband: Harvey J. Hightower; her grandson: Darren Johnston; and, her brothers: Marshall Nelson and Clifton Nelson.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law: Jimmy and Dawn Hightower of Grayson; her daughters and sons-in-law: Brenda and Pete Parker of Grayson, and Reba and Mickey Steen of Olla; her grandchildren: Paul Johnston, Bryan Johnston, Sunny Hightower, Cody Hightower, Jamey Hightower, Marcus Smith, Hannah Hightower, Wendy McClanahan, Gale Barbo and Derek Steen; twelve great-grandchildren; and her sister: Margie Nelson Lowe of West Monroe.

Visitation will be Wednesday, August 8, 2007, from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Riser Funeral Home, 7131 Hwy 165, Columbia, and Thursday, August 9, 2007, from 9:00 AM until time of services at the church.
