Miss Emmons, Mr. Book Exchange Vows In Afternoon Ceremony

Sunday afternoon, at 2:30 o'clock, Miss Dewanna E. Emmons and Rube A. Book were united in marriage in a double ring ceremony at the Ridge Avenue Baptist Church. The Reverend A. T. Mitchell officiated.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Emmons of West Monroe and Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Book of St. Landry are the parents of the bridegroom.

White gladioli in tall baskets decorated the altar. A musical background for the exchanging of vows was provided by Miss Margie Norris. Miss Nancy Dodd was soloist.

The bride entered the church with her father who gave her in marriage. She wore a gown of Chantilly lace and tulle over bridal satin, fashioned with a fitted bodice of lace with scalloped neckline and a voluminous skirt of tulle. A tiered circular shoulder length veil fell from a Juliet cap encrusted in seed pearls. She carried a white orchid surrounded by feathered carnations atop her white Prayer Book.

Miss Jane Emmons served her sister as maid of honor. Her street length frock was of burnt orange peau de soie made with rounded neckline and full skirt. In her hair she wore a headdress of matching material and carried a bouquet of bronze chrysanthemums.

Carlton Deville was best man and the ushers included Danny Emmons, nephew of the bride, and Larry Book, brother of the groom.

Mr. and Mrs. Emmons were hosts at a reception following the ceremony. Mrs. Emmons received her guests wearing a biege dress with matching shoes and bag. Her hat was pink and she wore a corsage of pink blossoms. She was assisted in receiving by Mrs. Book who chose a dress of navy blue with matching accessories, and a corsage of pink stephanotis.

The cake table was covered with a pink satin cloth with net overskirt. A tiered wedding cake placed on a reflector was placed at one end of the table and punch was served from a milk glass bowl at the opposite end. A rain tree was featured in the house decorations.

Later in the afternoon, Mr. and Mrs. Book left for Santa Anna, California where they will reside. The bride traveled in a two piece suit of Hunters green with contrasting accessories.

Among the out of town guests were Mrs. Dodd, Miss Nancy Dodd, of Orange, Texas, Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Emmons, Lecompte, Mrs. D. M. Emmons, Miss Gay Carpenter, of St. Landry, Miss Ann Ott, Many, Miss Charlene Andrews, Gurdon, Ark., Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Book, Beaumont, Texas, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Clark, Carolyn Jeanene Jeffery, of Benton, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Bratton, Opelousas, J. M. Lindsey, Cheneyville, and Louis Book, Bastrop.
