Nuptials Unite Miss Velma Jones, Mr. John Holt

Miss Velma Jones of 107 Crawford, Winnfield, became the bride of Mr. John David Holt of Ruston, in a beautiful ceremony Oct. 5, at 8 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Winnfield.

The bride's parents are Mrs. L. O. Jones and the late Mr. Jones of Montgomery. The Rev. and Mrs. J. L. Holt of Joyce are the groom's parents.

Before an arch of white tapers mounted in floor candelabra and baskets of white gladiola, the Rev. Robert W. Gage read the nuptial rites.

Mrs. Bernard Harrison of Montgomery, sister of the bride, was matron of honor. She was wearing a yellow lace over satin sheath with an overskirt of lace. Dyed to match slippers and a headpiece of veil attached to a crown of lace and satin completed the ensemble. She carried a single yellow rose.

Bridesmaids were Mrs. Ellis Jones of Lafayette, sister-in-law of the bride, Miss Jackie Campbell of Winnfield, and Mrs. Jack Plunkett of Winnfield.

They were identically attired in street length dresses of full skirted yellow lace over satin with fitted bodices and sabrina necklines. Matching slippers and headpieces complemented the ensembles. Each carried a single yellow rose.

The flower girl was miss Zhan Couvillion of Alexandria, and was dressed as the bridesmaids. Ringbearer was Melvin Lee Harrison of Montgomery, nephew of the bride.

Bridesgroom's attendants were Mr. Howard McCollum of Columbia, uncle of the groom, best man, and ushers, Mr. Gerald Robbins, Mr. Jerry Price, and Mr. Ronnie Gresham, all of Winnfield.

Mrs. Morris Wood, organist, presented a medley of nuptial music as the bride was escorted to the altar by her brother, Mr. Ellis Jones of Lafayette.

BRIDAL GOWN

Miss Jones was wearing a floor length white satin gown with a train over-skirt of chantilly lace. Long sleeves extended into points over the wrists. The scalloped neckline was enhanced by insets of chantilly lace. Her bridal bouquet was white carnations mounted on a white Bible. The bridal veil of illusion fell from a crown of seed pearls and sequins in a flowing finger-tip profusion.

The bride's mother was presented a red rose as she reached her pew, which was marked with a satin bow. She wore a royal blue crepe sheath with matching jacket and blue feather hat.

Mrs. Holt donned a navy blue faille dress with all bone accessories. Both wore white carnation corsages.

RECEPTION FOLLOWS

The Fellowship Hall of the Church was the scene of the ensuing reception. Tables were laid with white cutwork lotches. A pyramid arrangement of yellow roses and candles centered the bride's table.

The tiered wedding cake was topped with a miniature bride and groom.

Mrs. A. L. Buchanan, aunt of the bride, ladled punch, and Mrs. W. W. Newton, aunt of the groom, served the cake. Mrs. C. C. Laster, aunt of the bride, registered the guests.

Yellow rice bags were distributed by Miss Janis Harrison of Montgomery, neice [sic niece] of the bride, and Miss Patricia Buchanan, cousin of the bride of Winnfield.
