McCarty Petty

Marion Harriet McCarty and Kirk Edward Petty were united in marriage on June 24, 2006, in an afternoon ceremony at Third Presbyterian Church in Birmingham, Alabama.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Lee McCarty Jr. of Jackson. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Joseph Lee McCarty Sr. and the late Mr. McCarty of Ellisville and the late Mr. and Mrs. William Edward Howard Jr. of Laurel. Parents of the groom are Mrs. Eugene Edward Petty and the late Mr. Petty of St. Louis, Missouri.

Rev. Carl Kalberkamp and Rev. Bill Whitwer officiated at the double-ring ceremony. Nuptial music was provided by Mr. Daniel Cason, pianist/organist; Mr. Jim Patillo, guitarist; and Ms. Peggy Pursell, vocalist.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a gown of ivory Chantilly lace. The sleeveless bodice was fashioned with a V neckline and natural waistline encircled with a shirred sash of fawn silk taffeta closed with covered buttons in the back with streamers drifting onto the flared hemline of the fitted skirt and chapel train. She wore her mother's cathedral-length veil of French silk tulle falling from a tiara of pearls and crystals. The bride carried a bouquet of freesia, Eskimo roses, and white hydrangea hand-tied with ivory satin ribbon.

Maid of honor was Elizabeth Brooke McCarty, sister of the bride. Ashley McCarty Welcher, sister of the bride, served as matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Elizabeth Joann Bragan, Lyndsey Anna McIntyre, and Gina Marie Norris, sister of the groom. Attendants wore strapless dresses of pistachio English net with shirred waistlines and floor length A-line skirts. They carried bouquets of French blue hydrangea, Majolica spray roses, delphinium, white stock, and apple green hypericum berries. Junior bridesmaids were Jessica Rose Petty and Alison Elizabeth Petty, nieces of the groom.

Honorary bridesmaids were cousins of the bride Sara Leigh Watson, Katherine Anne Watson, and Rebecca Rose Cortez. They wore dresses of cobalt satin with hemlines and sashes of ivory organza. The flower girl was Caroline Steele Welcher, niece of the bride. She wore a French hand-sewn dress with a halo of pink roses in her hair.

The groom's brother, Kyle Wilfred Petty, served as best man. Groomsmen were Todd Eugene Petty, brother of the groom; Derwood Benjamin Greene, Jared Michael Shull; Raymond Wayne Skinner; Joseph Olan Stubbs; Brian Edward Welcher, brother-in-law of the bride; and Tanner Edward Petty, nephew of the groom.

The bride's parents hosted a reception at the Summit Club atop the AmSouth Harbert Plaza. On the eve of the wedding, the groom's mother hosted a rehearsal dinner at the Harbert Center in downtown Birmingham.

Following a honeymoon to Kauai and Maui, Hawaii, the couple is at home in Birmingham.
