SIMONS-MECOM
One of the prettiest weddings occurring in Columbia in recent years was that of Miss Margaret Lynn Mecom, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Mecom, to Robert Sewall [sic Sewell] Simons, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Simons, of Alexandria, La., which was beautifully celebrated on Saturday night at eight o'clock at the First Methodist Church.
The impressive ceremony was read by Dr. Freeman, pastor of the First Methodist Church in Monroe.
The church was lovely for the auspicious occasion. Tall white baskets filled with white roses and ferns were placed around the altar rail which was woven with southern smilax and roses. Waving palms and beautiful ferns formed a verdant background for the tall V shaped trellis with its outside outline of steps with shaded lights.
A beautiful nuptial program was given with Mrs. Marvin B. Queen at the organ. Richard Cooter sang “Because” and “At Dawning” in a beautiful tenor. “I love You Truly” was played during the ceremony.
At the opening strains of the bridal march, from Lohengrin, the bridal party entered, the maids and men in couples, the men in full dress.
