Abilene Christian College Students Wed in Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA CITY, Jan. 1 -- Nancy Elaine Owens became the bride of Thomas Evan Burleson in the Southwest Church of Christ Dec. 25. Both are students at Abilene Christian College, Abilene, and will live there after a wedding trip.

Walter P. Bryan, minister, read the ceremony before a setting of white gladioli, greenery, and candelabra.

Parents of the bride are Dr. and Mrs. R. E. Owens. He is the son of Mrs. Rae Carroll, Angleton, and Burl E. Burleson, Oklahoma City.

Vocal wedding music was provided by a quartet: Bob Hall, Alice Strawn, and Ethelyn and Scott English. They sang “At Dawning,” “I Love You Truly” and the “Wedding March.” Cliff Mauldin sang “Because” as a solo.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a floor length dress of ivory slipper satin. The long filled bodice was scalloped at the hip line. The miniature collars were edged in val lace, sprinkled with sequins. The sleeves came to points at the bride's wrists. Her veil was a lace mantilla with illusion ruffles caught with seed pearls around the face. She carried a colonial type bouquet of white roses.

Angela Wheeler, cousin of the bride, was maid of honor. Prentice Martin, Abilene, was best man. Ushers were Ralph Harvey, Edward Griggs, Jim Keliner, Oklahoma City, and Don Bowen of El Reno.

Following the ceremony, a reception was held in the Kiwanis Youth Building. Assisting were Rita Allen, Mrs. Walter P. Bryan, Mrs. Clarene Eldridge, June Hamilton, Freda Scott, Mrs. H. R. Wheeler and Mrs. R. H. Roth, sister of the bridegroom.

Mrs. Burleson is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Manley of Abilene.
