Nellie Faye Sikes Wed James Thomas In Home Ceremony
On Saturday, June 22, at 6:30 o'clock in the evening, Miss Nellie Faye Sikes became the bride of James A. Thomas Jr. of Columbus, Miss., at the home of her parents, Mrs. A. L. Sikes and the late Mr. Sikes in Winnfield. The goom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James A. Thomas Sr., of Columbus, Miss.
The Rev. Turner A. Davis of Monroe, performed the double-ring ceremony in the presence of numerous relatives and friends.
Vows were spoken on the lawn before an arch of Magnolia blossoms flanked by baskets of white gladioli. Bobby Maxey, organist, played the traditional wedding marches and accompanied Elmo Mercer, soloist.
The bride, given in marriage by her brother, James E. Sikes, wore a waltz-length gown of white embroidered organdy over taffeta. The molded bodice came to a deep point over a full skirt featuring a scalloped hemline. She wore matching elbow length mitts and carried a cascade bouquet of feathered carnations centered with a purple throated white orchid. Her fingertip veil of illusion fell from a crown of tiny seed pearls.
Mrs. Gene Stratton Porter, matron of honor, was attired in a waltz length gown of pink net over taffeta with a matching juliet cap and carried a pink carnation bouquet.
Miss Betty Sue Atkins, niece of the bride, was flower girl.
William B. Garrett was best man and Jimmy Atkins, nephew of the bride, served as ring-bearer. A. L. Sikes Jr. and Ardis Ray Sikes, brothers of the bride, were ushers.
RECEPTION HELD
A reception was held following the nuptials. Receiving with bride and groom were their mothers and the feminine members of the bridal party.
Mrs. Ardis Ray Sikes, Monroe, La., registered the guests.
The bride's table, laid with a white satin and net cloth, was centered with the bridal bouquet, flanked by the tiered wedding cake trimmed with white stock and fern. The cake was served by Mrs. W. H. Atkins, sister of the bride, and presiding at the punch service was Mrs. W. E. Puckett of Shreveport, and Mrs. A. L. Sikes Jr., sister-in-law of the bride, of Ruston.
Assisting with the courtesies wree Miss Cecil Clark, Le Compte, Mrs. Ralph Robertson, El Dorado, Ark., Mrs. C. E. Sherwood, Mrs. Robert Maxey and Mrs. J. C. Long of Winnfield.
For traveling the bride chose a black silk sheath with matching jacket trimmed with black and white polka dots, complimented with white accessories. At her shoulder was the orchid from the bridal bouquet. Upon their return the couple will make their home in Shreveport.
After graduating from Northwestern State Teachers College the bride taught for two years in Shreveport. The groom is finishing a tour of duty with the Air Force that included service in Alaska and the Aleutian Islands.
Out-of-town hosts included Mr. and Mrs. Edward Puckett and daughter, Mrs. Bobby Joe King, of Shreveport.
