MR. AND MRS. JOE EVANS CELEBRATE 50TH ANNIVERSARY

Open house was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Evans, 2715 Lee Ave., Saturday evening, September 27th, from 6 to 8 o'clock, honoring Mr. and Mrs. Joe S. Evans of Baskin who were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.

Receiving the guests with Mr. and Mrs. Evans were their two youngest children Willis Evans and Minnie Richardo [sic Ricardo]. Mrs. Evans was becomingly dressed in navy blue with a corsage of gold flowers. Beautiful flowers were placed in all rooms, as several bouquets were received by the honored guests.

The dining table was beautifully covered with a lace cloth. In the center was a huge centerpiece of golden chrysanthemums artistically arranged and surrounded by green candles in crystal holders. One one end was the tiered cake in gold and mounted by golden slippers. The crystal punch bowl was a the other end of the table. Napkins inscribed "Annie and Joe 1902-1952" were placed in fan shape on either side of the cake.

Mrs. Charles King, granddaughter, presided at the punch bowl while Miss Patsy Mathis and Jane Diamond served cake and saw that every one registered in the guest book. Miniature golden wedding bells were pinned on each lady present. They received many beautiful gifts.

Annie Silvey and Joe Evans were married at Baskin in 1902. Their union was blessed with five children all of whom are living. J. C. and W. B. Evans of Monroe, Louis Evans of Rayville, and Mrs. O. B. Ricardo and Mrs. Clarence Jernigan of Port Arthur, Tex. Eight grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
