Stewart-Taunton Marriage Solemnized In Lafayette Street Methodist Church
Miss Hazel Elizabeth Taunton, daughter of Mrs. Bertha Taunton, and Irvan Chester Stewart, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Milas Stewart, of New Brockton, were united in marriage at 3:00 p.m. June 5 at Lafayette Street Methodist Church. The Rev. Charles Hildreth officiated at the double ring ceremony.
Decorations within the church included a rich green background of palms and ferns and floor baskets of white gladioli. Lighting was from white candles burning in branched candelabra.
Miss Dorothy Helen Howell played the wedding music which included ``Reverie'' by Dickinson, ``Intermezzo'' by Propst, ``Poeme'' by Fibich, and ``Indian Love Call.'' Miss Nada Jean Pelham, vocalist, sang ``Because'' and ``Always.''
The candles were lighted by Charles W. Taunton, brother of the bride, and the ushers were Rubin Stewart, brother of the bridegroom, and Hugh Taunton, brother of the bride.
Miss Taunton and Mr. Stewart entered together and the bride was attired in an ivory crepe costume with which she wore brown and white accessories and a corsage of red roses.
Mrs. Taunton, mother of the bride, wore a gown of pink and white crepe with corsage of pink carnations. Mrs. Stewart, mother of the bridegroom, was dressed in a brown ensemble and her flowers were yellow roses.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Goodson, sister and brother-in-law of the bride, entertained at a small reception at their home on Cottonwood Road, following the ceremony. Decorations were in green and white and the floral arrangements were of gladioli, pansies and sweetpeas. The bride's table, veiled in lace, held centrally the tiered wedding cake which was topped with a miniature bridal couple. Presiding at the table were Mrs. Hugo Griggs and Mrs. Carl Waller.
After a wedding trip to points in Florida, Mr. and Mrs. Stewart are now residing in Tuscaloosa and Mr. Stewart is attending the University.
Out-of-town guests at the ceremony included: Mr. and Mrs. Ancel Carmack and daughter, Carole, of Jacksonville, Fla., Mrs. J. M. Stewart and daughter, Ann, Mr. and Mrs. Oren Bowden, of New Brockton, and Mrs. Hugo Griggs of Tuscaloosa.
