Condensed Matter Theory

Novel Correlated Electron Physics

Khandker F. Quader joined the Kent State University Physics faculty in fall 1990. Prior to this he held research appointments at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Rutgers University. He has a broad range of interest in Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics. Over the past several years, he has worked on many-body problems in various condensed forms of matter, such as liquid Helium-3, heavy fermions, high Tc superconductors, as well as on nuclear matter, finite nuclei and optical properties of liquid crystals.

Quader's recent interests are in the physics of novel correlated electron systems, including high Tc cuprate superconductors, layered materials, heavy fermions and copper-oxygen ladder systems. His theory research combines phenomenological and microscopic approaches, with some emphasis on making connection with experiments. The theoretical methods include techniques of many-particle quantum statistical mechanics, for example, crossing-symmetric approaches, Fermi liquid theory, Boltzmann transport equations, and aspects of critical phenomena/phase transitions.

Quader has research ties with theorists and experimentalists at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), Naval Research Laboratory, AT&T Bell Laboratory and Rutgers University. He has been a collaborator/consultant and regular visitor at LANL since 1988.
