Abstract

The leading twist theory of nuclear shadowing in DIS on nuclear targets is discussed. Predictions for nuclear parton distribution functions (PDFs) and nuclear diffractive PDFs are presented and discussed. Next, the role of nuclear shadowing and multiple soft rescatterings leading to a novel QCD factorization breaking in hard diffraction in proton-nucleus scattering is presented. A strategy to study the predicted phenomenon in ultraperipheral pA collisions at the LHC is outlined.
