"Revitalizing Undergraduate Physics"

John Norbury

Abstract

This talk describes the successful revitalization of an undergraduate physics program. The particular undergraduate program described began with only a total of about 5 physics majors. Within several years the department had 100 physics majors (and is still growing) and good graduation rates. The methods used to achieve this success, such as new physics courses, joint engineering programs and successful recruitment, will be described. These methods should be useful for other science departments wishing to upgrade and expand their own undergraduate programs.
