Minutes of the E895 meeting Graduate Chemistry Rm 403, SUNY Stony Brook Monday 10/16/95 Attending: MG - Mark Gilkes MJ - Marvin Justice AH - Andrew Hirsch RL - Roy Lacey HL - Heng Liu RS - Rulin Sun PC - Paul Chung EL - Erwan LeBras EC - Eric Colin JA - John Alexander JL - Jerome Lauret TPC: ==== MG - We have laid the fiber optics cables, as far as they go, which is 20 ft shy of the boom arm on the high stretch of cable tray. The fiber optics extensions have been ordered from Fibertron, and are expected to arrive at the end of this month. MG - We need 10-conductor ribbon stock for the replacement BitBus cables. Also RG59 and RG58 for anode high voltage and signal cables respectively. We have most of the original cable from the EOS experiment, but the lengths are too short for our current run. MG - I have talked with Larry about the extra cable stock, and with Leigh Hawkins about the gas handling system. Leigh needs 1-inch fittings which are not available at Brookhaven. He has given me UC-LBL part numbers for these. He is considering Teflon tubing in the sections where we need flexibility, rather than Tygon. MG - Leigh has about 30 bottles of P-10 right now that we could start with, if need be. I don't know yet when the P-10 order arrives. We also have to finalize the nitrogen situation. MUSIC: ====== MG - The MUSIC cables have been laid. We have found that the flash ADC ribbon cables are about 10-12 ft too short. The anode high voltage cables are also short. MG - Larry will have a pump for MUSIC in place this week. The endcap stands have been completed, so we can close the detector up. MISC: ===== MG - I understand that the repair for the MPS magnet cooling manifold has been postponed until December. Joe Scaduto will have surveyors in the magnet this week to determine the placement for the TPC supports. SOFTWARE: ========= MJ - I am working on getting the run control program going. It almost works, but there are a couple of Fortran routines that are a problem for the new version of the Fortran compiler. I intend to rewrite these routines in C. MJ - I am porting all the TAS2 code for E895 to nsdssi. The CVS repository and the library versions of E895 code will now reside there, rather than on the LBL machine sseos. MJ - I have fixed a tracker bug that artificially limited the rigidity of tracks in the E895 code to 5 GeV/c. Marvin Justice showed some results from his acceptance simulations at 2.75 GeV/c and 5.0 GeV/c. Plots of dN/dy vs normalized rapidity show that the proton reconstruction efficiency is unaffected by the lower B field setting (0.5 T) while the pi+ and pi- efficiencies improve overall, and significantly at just backward of mid-rapidity. The lack of field distortions in the TPC at the lower field setting is an argument for the lower field, but the momentum resolution is worse by a factor of 2. Prepared by: Mark Gilkes
