E895 Meeting Minutes 11 February, 1997 Attending: Gulshan Rai, Nathan Stone, Dieter Best, Heng Liu, Jim Draper ------------------------------------------------------------------------ News & Status Report: DB - In the last meeting, I mentioned that EOSGX had some problem and crashed mysteriously. By re-compiling the executable without optimization flag, the problem seems to go away and it runs stable right now. - I did some changes to the hit_finder, I enlarged the array size, changed the hardwired Zpad to Zpad=Yoff-0.4 and also made changes to DSTN table. - Davis once had trouble in linking TAS3 on HPUX-9, but now TAS3 is running at Davis. Stony Brook has not started TAS3 yet. CMU has no TAS3 running on OSF yet, but Zoran is confident that he can get it going pretty soon. - I have 1000 RQMD(2.3) events per energy for central trigger. We need to run the cluster routine right now, I only have one in the configuration space, we should get one in momentum space too. - We have requested 250GB Mass Storage space at NERSC. - No progress on PDSF hardware side. We have 2 8GB partitions on PDSF now, we need to request one 16GB single partition. GR - Have they cloned the disks ? DB - Not yet. They want to upgrade the HP OS since the old one has problem with AFS. GR - I generated the distortion tables, one for 2&4 GeV, one for 6&8 GeV. I have checked them into the CVS repository. - There are 2 hit_finders floating around. The results were quite different between these two. We need to get to the bottom of it. Heng will show you the plots later. - Calibration parameter is being tied down. The vertical translation of the event with respect to TPC is caused by the wrong parameter in Geant, Mark Gilkes corrected the display module. - Mike Lisa faxed me a conference proceeding he wrote for EOS, you can get a copy in my office. - One original DLT tape is damaged during the recent shipment. As for the tape distribution, each institution should come up with tapes so that we can copy them. DB - Mike Lisa volunteered to look at t0 and gain calibration. I have just put some pulser events onto the disk. - showed the plot of TPC phase offset. For 6&8 GeV it should be 800 rather than 756 (EOS). He also showed the track reconstruction for 8 GeV, the point-removal-efficiency is only about 40-50%. He plotted the hits per track which peaks around 20, we got a lot of short tracks. JD - We can try on some laser events. NS - We can plot the tracks (assuming straight line) in the space of hits and polar angle, and see where the hits are being lost. NS - release Beta copy of CVS. Chris Pinkenburg asked me about how can they check out TAS3 code from Stony Brook. One option is that he can logon as E895 on sseos, the other one is that we can give an account for each institution. GR - We can set up a mirror directory and keep it updated too, then remote side can use ftp to retrieve them. I'll go along with your suggestion. At this point, Nathan is E895 librarian and people should contact him. JD - deduced the roof height of 820mm from laser, which is very consistent with the geometric drawing. The cause of the down spike region for the canary reading is understood. It's caused by the grounding problem and happened when the technician broke the gas supply for canary. HL - showed the results from 2 different hit_finders. One apparently found more hits than the other. The one that has fewer hits is with some bug fixes from Marvin during the first run, we don't know if the other one just found a lot of noises or some real signals. Prepared by Heng Liu
