E895 Meeting Minutes 25 February, 1997 Attending: Gulshan Rai, Nathan Stone, Dieter Best, Heng Liu, Jim Draper, Bill Caskey, Dan Cebra, Jerry Chance, Arun Das, Hans Georg Ritter Teleconference joined by Mike Lisa and Mark Gilkes. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ News & Status Report: HGR - Marvin's strangeness paper is ready and will be distributed next week. - Jerry's paper will come out mid March according to PRL's Web page. GR - Tim ask me for a nomination from E895 for the Big Sky meeting. Mike, are you interested in it ? ML - ya. If you can send me the detailed information, I'll take a look. GR - We welcome Arun Das here. He is the post-doc from OSU. He will tell us his interest in E895. AD - give presentation about event-by-event analysis. The method to separate normal events and exotic events is very efficient at SPS energies, we have to do the efficiency study before applying it to E895 data. DC - We are looking at the finer detail of laser events. The fiducial marks are pretty close to the previous survey result. - We have to apply distortion correction to the laser events. NS - Hall probe readings are transformed to magnetic field. At one point, the probe was broken. At another point, because of the tolerance constraint the probe reading is erratic. GR - The effect is real and the field change is about 0.1%. NS - The distribution area is set up and it got updated from CVS periodically. The documentation is on E895 Web page. Another utility directory is being set up. DB - give a brief summary of last week's PDSF user meeting. We have access to the mass storage system on NERSC. - Exabyte stacker is mounted on SUN. DLT stacker will be moved to HP side. - I'm updating the tracker program. - I am working on the rqmd_to_geant routine. My cluster routine is only in configuration space. GR - From the PDSF user meeting, we had the green light to use most of them in the next few months. - Global t0 issue. Using beam which is aligned to the surveyed V2 hole gives me different result from the top edge method. Except this t0, all other calibration parameters are ready. DC - Look at the reconstructed vertex to see if it moves. JD - give an update on laser calibration. It's ready to tabulate the drift velocity. GR - Two distortion tables are in CVS repository. HL - showed the difference between two hit_finders. The reason that one found less hits is that Marvin inserted some quality checks which cut off most of the deconvoluted hits. This doesn't affect the case when TRFF=1 (Gulshan's symmetric Gaussian fitting), the default switch that we are currently running is TRFF=2 (Mike's asymmetric fitting). ML - I will look at it and give you a fix to those quality checks. - I propose to have a software meeting in the next 2 weeks at OSU. After discussion. we agree that: Mike is coming to LBL on March 21, Mark Gilkes will be here March 16, then we can have a software meeting at LBL. Prepared by Heng Liu
