E895 Meeting Minutes 4 March, 1997 Attending: Gulshan Rai, Dieter Best, Heng Liu, Jim Draper, James Symons, Lee Schroeder ------------------------------------------------------------------------ News & Status Report: DB - Full data vault is available on PDSF. 3 scractch disks (each 8GB) are assigned to E895. - Parallel event processing with the old hitfinder is running on PDSF. GR - Are the results different between HP and SUN ? DB - I have to look into it. But certainly when you set the same switches, the cut is different on the two platforms. HL - There are 3 schemes in the old hit_finder. We have come to the consensus that Mike's TRFF=2 and DECON=2 case (Asymmetric Gaussian fitting with some boundary constraints) is better than the other two. But it turned out to be very CPU-time-consuming. Running one central event on Sparc 10, it's about 30 min compared with 4 min for TRFF=1. We have to see if the physics results from the two are different. JS - What's the criteria ? GR - Either run tracker to see the number of hits associated with the track, or look at the gain in Pt vs. Y phase space. GR - We'll release one official old hit_finder today and put it into CVS. Switch setting kumac file is under macros directory in CVS. - We used low gain beam run to extract t0, then put it back in the normal event, and it shifted the whole event down by 3 cm. V2 survey must be wrong, this is the only conclusion I can come up. JS - Is this the effect of the positive sheet of ions built up in the chamber ? JD - showed from his laser event fitting that the roof height is about 821mm. He got the temperature and atmosphere pressure data during the run from BNL's meteorological section. He plotted the temperature and pressure effects on the canary reading, the variation is only a few parts of a thousand. LS - Director's review is March 26-27th. GR - I will not go to the India meeting due to personal reasons. Prepared by Heng Liu
