Welcome:
I am a researcher and instructor in the Department of Physics at Kent State University.

Departmental responsibilities

PHY-36001 Modern Physics :
In Fall 2002 semester, I taught Modern Physics. You can still connect to the homepage to see the syllabus and learn more about the class.

PHY-4/56301 Introduction to Nuclear Physics :
In the Spring 2002, I taught this class. You can still visit this class homepage too.

Scientific research

My research at Kent State is quantum field theoretic and explores the physics on the boundary between nuclear and particle physics. The focus is on the "strong interaction" between quarks and gluons, known as Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD), and how these mysterious objects combine to form bound states, known as hadrons. The most well-known hadrons are the proton, neutron and pi-meson.

The interactions of QCD that bind quarks and gluons into hadrons is similar to the electromagnetic interactions that bind electrons within atoms, but are much, much stronger. In fact, the strong force is so strong that quarks and gluons simply refuse to be found outside of hadrons ever! This phenomena is called "confinement," and its origin remains one of the most important unanswered questions in particle physics today! My colleagues and I have recently published an article on this very issue (see Physical Review D 67 054019 (2003) or http://xxx.lanl.gov/abs/hep-ph/0212276).

Scientific biography

I did my undergraduate studies in physics and mathematics at New York University. I received an M.S. and Ph.D. in theoretical physics from University of Pittsburgh. Most of my time as a graduate student was spent at Argonne National Laboratory in the Physics Division Theory Group where I held a US DOE fellowship. In October 1996, I defended my Ph.D. thesis entitled: ``Nonperturbative quark dynamics in diffractive processes.''
Since then I have held post-doctoral research appointments in theoretical physics with the Nuclear Theory Group at Florida State University, the Nuclear Theory Center at Indiana University, and currently here at Kent State.

Personal biography

I was born in Brooklyn, New York on a lovely spring day; the bird was chirping, the wind was rustling through the leaves of the tree. Of course, my first true love was the Brooklyn Bridge. But foolishly I sought fame and fortune, and so I left Brooklyn to become a physicist. While living in Pittsburgh, I thought to myself: ``This is as far South as I will ever live.'' Later, I was surprised to find myself living in Tallahassee!

Still later in Bloomington, Indiana I met my wife Susan. We married in June 2002.

Misty Productions

I am involved with a small production group that produces books of poetry and short films.

Raisin Cane: We have finished our first short musical. It's a story of the trials and tribulations of being a small toy in a world of small toys, called "Raisin Cane". Think of it as a Toy Story about a meeting between the Smurfs and the California Raisins, and their subsequent journey into The Sound of Music.

Future Projects: We are in the early planning stages of producing our second musical. The details of which are still a secret; but I can tell you that there will be at least one scene with singing, cat pirates!
I thought you might like that! We'll post some sneak-previews soon.
