The Best Man's Toast
Saturday Night, June 29

Richard begins his toast.
I’ve known Mike a pretty long time – all his life. Today is a big day for him and Mike has been a little nervous. But this is okay, since he’s been making other people nervous for years.

He used to make me nervous when he was a little kid. If you remember the picture on the wedding invitation where he is holding a toy golf club…well, he had a penchant for hitting people with that club, especially me. I can’t imagine why.

Then, as he got older, he had a Mohawk and was in a punk rock group and started making other people nervous. However, he also was getting interested in science and was a talented muscian and that’s when I started to think he was actually pretty cool.

And now he’s a scientist with a Ph.D. and he works with particle accelerators and we should all be nervous.

Obviously, I haven’t known Susan as long. But I have known her long enough to know that what she does is hard work, and she’s really good at it. I’ve also known her long enough to know that I’m very lucky to have her as a member of our family.

And so, If you will raise your glasses and join me in a toast to my brother and sister-in-law; two people I’m delighted are part of my family… To the bride and groom!
